Introduction

The Research Unit in Mediation and Dissemination of scientific culture has for central mission to convey the culture of science and its values among the public at large as well as the students at both at universities and schools.

Roles

• Disseminate popularized scientific knowledge to the public at large and in particular the youth, aiming at arousing scientific vocations among our pupils and students.
• Design material and supports for popularizing science using multiple media adapted to modern communication techniques and targeting the entire spectrum of users. Production of innovative scientific, educational and didactic products by specialists.
• Address the concerns of our society through the work of highly qualified research teams coming mainly from the academic world and who will be in charge in association with other actors of setting up an appropriate national strategy, both global and sectorial.
• Understand science, its history and modus operandi which must become part of the culture of our time. This should go some way towards making for a mature, resilient society, confident in the future, and accelerate its mutation into a modern society, yet proud of its identity and values.
• Keep close contact with the research community as well as with all sectors that could benefit from this extra soul that scientific mediation constitutes. Yet, work hand in hand with other institutions, the Ministries of National Education, of Culture, of Youth and Sports, of Professional Training, as well actors of the civil society.
• Train skilled science communicators in various specialties as well as with all sectors that could benefit from this extra soul that scientific mediation constitutes. • Media actions for everything relating to science, with the establishment of a national pool of specialists in all sciences; AV production, magazines, radio and TV outlets.

Purpose & Methods

The necessary tools for this purpose will also be produced, including audio-visual products, educational equipment, and mobile scientific caravan & exhibitions, as well as training workshops in astronomy, environmental science, genetics, virtual reality and electronics.

The importance of establishing this research unit appears from the observation that the citizen in our country in general lacks a correct appreciation of the educational, cultural and even entertaining value of scientific knowledge, which immunizes society.

Chihab Science Magazine

The research unit, in partnership with Sirius association, produces a periodical magazine in the culture of science aimed at the general public, the first of its kind at the national level, dealing with scientific topics, especially Astronomy.
